What Causes Sensitive Nipples?

I'm a 62 year old male.
I have overly sensitive nipples, going back about six months. My primary care doctor and urologist have tested my testosterone and estrogen levels, which are normal. They have felt them to determine if there a lump or someother growth underneath. There is none. My primary doc put me ananastrozade 1mg (twice a week) and that worked for a while, but now it isn't working. Wearing a jacket, or lying in bed can be uncomfortable. Working out with weights makes it worse. Sitting in a hot tub helps for a while, but the help is short-lived.
Any ideas?
could be due to infection/inflammation of nipple
Detailed Answer:
Hello
My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.
I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. There could be a number of causes for over-sensitivity. Most common causes are hormonal and inflammation. As in your case it could be possible because of infection/inflammation.
Have you noticed and increased in size of swelling around the nipple area?
similarly any swelling in armpits region?
If yes then they need to be evaluated by a surgeon. If they are not then it could be possible that its because of infection. I usually recommend by patients with clindamycin antibiotic with topical application of mupirocin. You can apply ointment and cover the nipple with dressing so that it won't cause irritation when your shirt touches.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
