What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain And Food Craving Before Menstruation?
Question: My cycle is due next week (3rd), and I am already feeling so hungry that I want to eat everything.. I spent the weekend ordering lot of food from outside, and even today I have had lots to eat... I am not sure if this is normal. its still a week / 10 days to go.
Also, I have horrible crampings and pain during my cycle (especially first 2 days). I have one sleepless night every month. I try Midol, Ibrufen, hotwater bottle, tea, but nothing works completely...
Please advise

Brief Answer:
Need some additional information.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for writing to us. Let me know few things:
1) What was your last date of period?
2) Did your previous cycle regular or irregular? Duration of cycle?
3) Are you sexually active currently or trying to get pregnant?
4) Do you undergo any investigations - ultrasound or hormone test recently?
If yes, you can upload or attach them for review.
5) Do you have any systemic disease? diabetes or hypertension? Your current height and weight?
I will be looking forward for your earliest response and give proper suggestion.

Hello
my last cycle was 3rd April and the duration was 3 to 4 days, but it was very painful.
my cycles are always regular.
I am not sexually active.
no I haven't gone thru any tests. However I do have major mood swings as well some times (I feel like crying without reason).
no I don't have diabetes but I did have some signs of depression.
I am 5 inches and around 64 in weight. . (not totally sure on the weight)
tbanks

Brief Answer:
Mostly normal. Do one ultrasound scan.
Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,
Thanks for your updated information. Followings are my comments:
1) Food craving, 1 to 2 weeks before your menstrual period is quite common and normal thing. It is seen among most of the women. However, you should take those foods in right manner, so that you don't gain much weight.
2) Abdominal cramp during period or painful period is called Dysmenorrhea in medical term. It is the most common menstrual disorder. I suggest you to undergo one ultrasound scan to rule out pelvic pathology or organic disease.
3) I can suggest some medicine like Drotin-DS or Drotin-M to get relieve from abdominal cramp during period. If it doesn't work well, you may need to take hormonal birth control pill after reviewing test report.
4) Take Vitamin supplements, do regular exercise to control weight, avoid mental stress or anxiety by doing meditation or yoga, avoid tea/ coffee/ salty food in the 2nd half of cycle, drink more water and take sound sleep. These will help to improve quality of lifestyle.
Hope, I have answered your query. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.
Wish your good health and take care. Good luck.

Thank you so much Doctor.. I will want to use the medicine, and check once... Is there a way I can reach out to you, if I close this issue ? Since I have consulted you before, it would be great if I can reach out to you after I try the medicine, and after I get the test reports.
Do let me know
