What Causes Severe Back Pain?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: I have had severe back pain for over eight weeks now. painkillers are not relieving it. I saw an osteopath who suggested I may have a hip/lower spine hairline fracture. (I suffer from osteoporous) On seeing my GP he thought it may be spinal stenosis. I've had x-rays on hips and lower spine and am now scheduled for a scan on 23rd January. Meanwhile I'm still in severe pain and walking exercise is not helping.

Brief Answer:
Spinal stenosis is a possibility.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

There are a few conditions that may cause your symptoms and spinal stenosis is a possibility.

Other conditions include degenative vertebral column disease, herniated disc disease, vertebral fracture or lesion etc.

Appropriate diagnosis is achieved by careful clinical and neurological examination correlated to imaging studies and you are scheduled for a scan, so real cause of your symptoms should be clear after imaging.

In mean time I suggest you to wear a lumbar support belt during the day.

Heat procedures on your back, rest should help and combinated pain relieving drugs ( Tramadol + Paracetamol or Codeine +Paracetamol if you are not alergic) should help too in improving symptoms.

Definitive treating modalities should be clear after the correct clinical and imaging diagnosis.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
