What Causes Severe Body Tremors With Mild Sinus Pressure?

Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: My son's physical response last night during this "episode" of which has never happened before... (He currently is a CNA in a cardiac unit not knowing if there's a potential for an initial bacterial infection) Symptoms include: "felt a shiver response originating in the spine and then it spread to his whole body. Broke out in goose bumps all over and felt very cold. Shiver with teeth chattering which turned into what felt like body convulsions. All of the his muscles in his body were contracting for 5-10 minutes. No loss of consciousness, vision, or orientation. Had to breathe himself down while warming himself under the covers of his bed. Convolutions subsided and had a mild internal shiver, before the shivering completely went away. He woke up this morning feeling like he'd been hit by a train. Reporting he was mainly sore all over due to the continuous contractions of all muscles (This part really concerns me...not sure if this is a deficiency of Calcium as in a tetany response). I asked if he had any halos in vision prior in his day or a headache and he had none. His sinuses have been bothering him lately with constant pressure and weather change. He works out 3-4 days a week schedule permitting. He's over a healthy eater (cooks for himself). 6'2", 120 24 yr. old male.

Brief Answer:
There could be many reasons

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on Health Care Magic.

These symptoms you are describing could be due to many reasons.

It could be due to electrolyte imbalance Please get a sodium, potassium and calcium levels done.

The symptoms could be either due to hyponatremia or hypocalcaemia.

Since you said there was no incontinence, it is unlikely to be a seizure . However if it repeats, an EEG and CT scan brain is definitely warranted.

Is there any other symptom like dizziness or any kind of aura ?

Could also be building up a urine or blood stream infection or an abscess anywhere in the body .

Please keep a record of the temperature and let me know if there is a spike .

But first of all, please get the electrolytes level check-up done .

Hope this helps
Let me know if there's any further queries
Best wishes
