Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms
Presence of Duodenal ulcer can lead to weight gain. Fear of getting pain or relief of pain after eating drives one subconsciously to over eating habit leading to weight gain especially so if there is lack of exercise and good physical activity.
Your pain in pain abdomen is more likely to be related to intake of pain medicine which cause gastric intolerance. Before attributing the cause of weight gain to acid peptic disease, it is important to have a thorough evaluation to rule out possible Endocrine causes like Hypothyroidism.
I would suggest you the following
1. Ensure good intake of water : 2 to 3 liter a day
2. Eat small quantity of meals frequently
3. Avoid carbonated / alcohol / caffeinated beverage
4. Continue taking acid suppressant like Pantoprozole
5. Consult your physician for further assessment.
Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
Take care

I do feel that the stomach pain is attributed to the pain medicine, I have experienced this pain in the past and it was the same. During that episode my weight was not affected. I guess, I was more concerned this time because I gained 10-12 pounds within such a short time frame, 2 months to be exact.
I am 5' 9" and weighed 145 pounds...I now weigh 160. I have not changed my diet or my lifestyle, the weight just started coming on,that is why I thought it could be from the ulcer.
The unexplained weight gain along with the stomach pain is what caused my alarm, I will surely follow up with my primary for further testing.
Again, thank you for your response.
