What Causes Severe Cough At Night In An Infant?
No need to give these medicines immediately
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns but don't worry. The most likely reason for these complaints in early infancy is post nasal drip associated cough or bronchiolitis.
I would recommend you to go for a chest X Ray if he is having difficulty in breathing to rule out pneumonia or broncholitis. If pneumonia then he may need erythromycin as prescribed by your doctor else there is no need. Also, ambrodil is not used in this age.
Once pneumonia is ruled out, just start with saline nasal drops along with nasal suction ( by baby nasal aspirators) for thick mucus to unblock the nostrils. This can be done every 3-6 hourly. Keep the head end of baby cot slightly raised to prevent reflux or nasal drip associated coughs. Burping after feeds will be of help.
If the condition persists then use levolin and hypertonic saline nebulization to decongest the chest. The frequency can be determined after clinical evaluation of good pediatrician.
Ensure exclusive breastfeeding for first 6 months to improve immunity.
Hopefully this will be of help.
Take care
