What Causes Severe Cough With Blood In Sputum?

Question: Hi I've coughing for more than 4 weeks now, for the past week I started coughing out blood been taking over the counter cough medicine seems like I'm not getting any better at all don't know what's wrong with me coughing out blood.

I can understand your concern.

Coughing blood is a serious condition that needs further lungs examinations as follows :

PPD test
Sputum examination for AFB
Bronchoscopy
Culture of XXXXXXX
Chest CT if needed

The usual lung conditions causing cough with blood in young subjects are :

Tuberculosis
Bronchoectazy

The first is an infective diseases and need the proper treatment.
The second is probably a disease from childbirth and needs treatment too m
