What Causes Severe Dry Throat And Persistent Cough?
Question: I have been having horrible dry throat at night. To the point, it wakes me up coughing. I cannot swallow at all, my throats is so dry. I keep water by my bed.
I feel like when I lay down, a part of my throat closes up. It's only when I lay down. I can breath fine. In the morning, I feel like my chest is heavy, and throat feels inflamed.
I also have a heavy feeling in my left ear, all the time.

Cough especially in lying down is usually due to Post nasal drip or gastric reflux disease.
Please tell me do you have any frequent nasal congestion or throat infection?
Any gastric regurgitation or indigestion?
History of tobacco use or smoking?
Send me the pictures of your throat.
Any investigations done like x-ray chest?
Any swellings in the neck?
Follow up with the required information so that I can suggest you better.

Cough especially in lying down is usually due to Post nasal drip or gastric reflux disease.

My answer to all your questions, is no.
I feel my chest is heavy in the morning and neck is tight. I have a yearly chest X-ray and also had a cat scan of chest about three months ago, because I had Active TB back in 2006.

Thanks for the information but I haven't received the pictures.
As you had tuberculosis in the past but your CT chest 3 months back was normal, in my opinionyour cough is allergic.
Take a combination of levocetrizine and montelukast once daily.
Take steam inhalation and a cough suppressant. Also use nasal drops.
Take an antacid once daily.
All the medicines I have prescribed will be available only on prescription.
Avoid spicy foods and aerated drinks. Drink plenty of water.
Have your dinner a bit early.
Follow all this for at least 10 days. I hope my answer helps you out.
