What Causes Severe Fatigue And Dizziness When Diagnosed With Tachycardia?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Jul 2016
Question: Hi i was wanting to know what a possible condition would be diagnosed for me. I have tachycadia, including fatigue and lightheadness 24/7. i also have to urinate frequently not sure if that is tied to the other problems.I also have a herniated disc in my back and a torn rotator cuff. im sure these symptoms do not pertain to the lightheadedness, just wanted to list all what is wrong with me. i weigh 200p and 5'2. i dont believe my weight have anything to do with this problem due to when i first had the problem i was in a good weight level and working out and still doing now. i just felt weird working out light headed and didnt want to pass out. I was doing some research and i was checking to see if i am anywhere close. i was looking into anemia, and that the lack of b 12 or b 9 could cause rapid heart rate which i do have that and do not believe it is associated with anxiety. and the lack of b 12 can make someone tired and have no energy which leads to the point of not wanting to work out and then weight gain. which i have gained about 30 pounds in the past 4 years working out or not. i am an athlete that played softball so i was up and down on weight. i did have to go to the ER about 2 years ago, i took some pre workout and my heart rate was through the roof to the point i had to go to the ER. they diagnosed it as caffeine overdose, and after that day i had extreme anxiety and fast heart rate and its a hard pound heart rate at times when just standing up. that ws two years ago and i still dont drink any caffeine due to the fact i am scared my heart rate will shoot through the roof and go through that experience again. i am way better with anxiety now from that two years ago. again, im not sure if it is related to the light headness and possible anemia, just stating my past experiences that maybe are linked to the condition i might have. i am just wanting to find out what is wrong because i want to fix it due to i am leaving to college soon and everyday i feel horrible and dont have the urge to workout even though i want to but have no energy. and also want to join the military so not sure if this is a disqualifying condition so if i can fix it quick i would wanna do it now. all of my symptoms at this point include light headed 24/7, always tired, weight gain due to not working out because no energy but i do have the motivation, frequent urination with no UTI, and waking up sometimes in the night to use the bathroom. but sometimes i get lucky and sleep through the night. i am very frustrated with the light head XXXXXXX and fatigue because i am always tired even if i sleep 2 or 13 hours. i will always wake up the same with the same fatigue and want to take a nap about 2 hours later but cant since i work. even if i do take a nap on the weekends i still wake up tired.

Brief Answer:
Hypothyroidism need to be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.
All your symptoms may be due to low functioning of Thyroid (Hypothyroidism) which can be ruled out by doing T3, T4, TSH.

After going through your clinical details I may suggest -
- Consult general physician for detailed physical examination.
- Investigations
Complete Blood count.
Urine examination.
T3, T4, TSH.
Liver Function Test.
Urea, Creatine, Electrolytes.
Vitamin B12.
- Depending upon clinical examination and above test results there may be need for further evaluation.

Hope this helps you.

I have already had my thyroid checked twice in the past years and the results were normal. But closer to the lower end. And also I was having the same symptoms when I had it checked but they didn't prescribe me anything.

Do you suggest my iron levels are low since I am having all the symptoms of that? If I would need to get my iron level up what do you suggest like vitamin wise or chin foods would get the levels up faster? Since I am wanting to feel better ASAP. Also, what are the side effects of taking b 12, do they cause the heart rate to go higher? Since I am trying to stay away from anything that will make my heart rate go higher.

Also, do you suggest going to a electrophysiologist or a cardiac Doctor since my general physician keeps wanting to send me to one of those. But the last time I went they did not do anything for me and only found I have palpitations.I'm not sure if I stated it anywhere but I am 21 years old.

Brief Answer:
Want to know more.

Detailed Answer:
Before commenting on thyroid status I want to know your previous reports. Also thyroid function may get affected over a period of 6 months.

Yes anemia due to Iron deficiency can lead to these type of symptoms but before taking correcting measures one need to know Serum Iron level.
Complete Blood Count with Red Blood Cell Indices gives indirect information about Iron deficiency or one can do complete Iron Studies (Serum Iron, TIBC, Ferritin).

Vitamin B12 supplement donot have direct effect heart rate.
Also it usually do not have any major side effects.

Before commenting on need to consult Electrophysiological study one need to know ECG finding during episode of palpitation, detailed physical examination.
Holter's study may be useful prior to Electrophysiological study.

Considering your age and clinical profile anxiety is most likely cause for your symptoms but before labeling it physical examination and above mentioned test results are important.

Try yoga, relaxation techniques.

Hope this helps you.

Okay thank you very much.

For the blood count test and holster study, can these be completed by my nurse practitioner? Or do I need to go to a specialist for those two tests.

I am just wanting to feel better and do what will help me ASAP. The light head XXXXXXX makes me tired I wake up tired and go to sleep tired. Since I am a athlete I need to work it every day but can't since I have no energy.

Also, if anemia or my thyroid was the problem, what is the treatment? Is it a one time thing? Or do I need to do stuff the rest of my life. Can I cure it if it is mild? I apologize, I have done the holster test and EKG before. They only showed palpitations at random times.

Brief Answer:
CBC can be done from any pathology Lab.

Detailed Answer:
Complete Blood Count is a blood test you can get it done from any pathology laboratory.

Anemia may be due to some underlying cause in female it is most likely due to iron deficiency but depending upon clinical evaluation other causes should be evaluated if suspected.
Depending upon underlying cause and level of anemia treatment can be planned.
In mild anemia nutritional supplement of Vitamin B12. Folic acid and Iron for a period of 3 to 6 months usually suffice.

Also treatment of thyroid problem will depend upon thyroid hormone level.
Duration of treatment will depends upon clinical evaluation.

Hope this helps you.
