What Causes Severe Gastrointestinal Virus, Soreness In Stomach And Rib Cage?
Question: I just suffered with severe gastrointestinal virus. Actually I was hospitalized because of it. I am left with terribly sore belly and my rib cage feels like I've been in a bar fight. Why is this?
Brief Answer:
This is related to the virus....Take Tylenol for pain control!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this infection you suffered and the pains you have reported. This is not unexpected with a viral infection though not always common. I will suggest you take Tylenol 1000mg thrice per day to address this. Also, drink much water, fruits, vegetables and exercise often. This would be very helpful in your recovery.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for further clarifications if need be.

How long might it last? Also am I still contagious? I became ill on January 22. My 87 year old mom lives with us. I worry that she may fall victim to it as well.?
Brief Answer:
Strict hygiene is the best measure for protection!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Viruses are contagious. However, they do not warrant isolation from others. Strict hygienic practices like washing hands before touching food, defecating in a milieu free from flies, etc is a major way prevent transmission.
I wish you well. Keep me posted if any concerns do come up.
