Question: I have recently started four new prescription meds and my hair has started falling out at a rapid pace and I seem to be losing my balance all the time and have fallen several times but have been lucky enough to have fallen where I could turn and land on some type of furniture. The four med's are: Estradiol 1 mg per day; Januvia 100 mg per day; Gabapentin 200 mg per day and Invokana 300 mg per day.

Welcome at HCM...

I am Dr Saad Sultan and will be answering your query. I have gone through your query and being your physician I completely understand your health concerns...

As far as hair loss is concerned, I don't think it is due to the drugs which you are taking right now. There may be some other causes for it which needs to be elucidated. It would be better to consult dermatologist to rule out other causes for it .

The other symptom which you have mentioned need to be investigated. It is very important to rule out low blood sugar. It may be due to low blood sugar levels as well as due to low blood pressure. These two should be recorded first and charting should be done. In addition to it, gabapentin also causes drop attack by causing vertigo and balance abnormalities.
Invokana can also cause dehydration and dizziness. Hope your BP is staying normal.

The best plan for you is to stop gabapentin and chart your blood sugar levels and blood pressure.

Hope it helps.
If you still have any query feel free to ask...
