What Causes Severe Intermittent Itching On Neck, Back And Groin Area?
Question: Doctor , I have severe intermittent itching on my neck , jaw bones, ears , back and groin area. It is not continuous but happens intermittently ; but I cannot figure out the trigger for such an episode. The itch is very bad when it is hot and sweaty. It might not occur for days but might start off all of a sudden. I have had myself treated for the groin itch a number of times before but the relief is temporary and lasts as long as the treatment continues. The groin itch is so severe , I almost cannot sleep at night. The itch is around the scrotal sacs , the penis shaft and the anus area. Please suggest a way forward. It is embarressing as well as irritating.

Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
A groin itch due to fungus should be persistent though it might increase with sweating. Also well defined red rashes or maceration should be present.
I would like to know if the itching is persistent or it develops all of a sudden and subsides soon.
If itching is associated with development of small red rashes
If hot weather, sweat, spicy food, severe exercise induces it.
If you have dandrufff over scalp or any specific skin lesions.
Please answer these queries and upload a pic of affected area.
In your case fungal infection, cholinergic urticaria and seborrheic dermatitis should be ruled out
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Take care
