Brief Answer:
Osteoarthritis which is more common at your age is a possibilty.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Osteoarthritis which is more common at your age is a possibility. This can be ruled out by taking x ray of knee.

If it is in early stages then over the counter analgesics like ibuprofen (advil) will give pain relief. Loosing some weight will be helpful. Wearing osteoarthritis knee brace will help also. You can also apply gels containing diclofenac, capsaicin and methylsalicylate locally.

If all these not helping then local injection of corticosteroids and injections of hyaluronate (hyalgan) will be helpful.

A consultation with an orthopedician is well appreciated. Knee pain can give reffered pain till hip. But other conditions like sciatica should be ruled out also. Examination by an orthopedician will help for this also.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Thank you, I will schedule an x-ray. Weight is not an issue; 125#s. Also, I have no other signs or symptoms of any pain in any other join. I'm very active for my age - walking, dancing, gardening. However, I do sit at the computer for long hours with volunteer work for my church. Thanks again!

Brief Answer:
Osteoarthritis can occur in only one joint or just a part of joint.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

Osteoarthritis can occur in only one joint or a part of joint. It can occur in active people also. Over usage or excess loading of a joint or part of it can result this also. X ray will definitely rule out this. X ray should be performed bilaterally (both knees).

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
