What Causes Severe Lower Abdominal Pain After Hysterectomy?

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Nov 2014
Question: I have previously had very bad problems with adhesions from numerous C-sections, Hysterectomy, Endometiosis, Placenta previa etc. My last adhesion release was in 99. the doc said I had adhesions as round as his thumb. That was in Europe as a dependant. Now I am in XXXXXXX so many years later and having terrible problems with adhesions. My new doc (male) told me to get use to them and do exercise? I told him my side is hurting so bad I am on the toilet all night even falling asleep on the toilet because of the pain. I get constipated and then take meds for that and I get diarrehea that feels like its tearing my intestines out. When they did my hysterectomy in 98, I had so much scarring they tore my bladder when taking my bladder out.The following year I had pain in the same spot I am having it now and they did an ultrasound. They saw a tumor. When they went to do surgery they couldn't find it. 5 years ago I really had problems again the colonoscopy showed what the doc called a very small "uterus". no one did any persuing of it.I had another ct last week and the doc said I had adhedsions and I should just live with them and do exercise. I am in a lot of pain. He told me he would see me in a month, I told him I had an a ppt with him next week and would see him then. He laughed and said ok. Doctor, I want my quality of life back even if it is only temporary. At least it is something. I am looking for a specialist in St. XXXXXXX who can possibly help me.

Brief Answer:
Surgery is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The symptoms that you are having are likely to be related to adhesions. The adhesions inside the abdominal cavity are recurrent. Even if you got all the adhesions removed in 99, these have recurred again. These can further progress to form strictures to cause an acute pain like you are having.
The main treatment of such strictures is surgery to remove the adhesions but it is a difficult surgery and recurrence can happen. Right now you can have some anti inflammatory pain killers for symptomatic relief. Do wait for your appointment and get a surgery scheduled for proper relief and to improve your quality of life.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thank-you so much for your time in answering my questions. I am afraid my MD has told me to get "use" to them because they only return. He also suggested the pain in my left quadrant can be from hemaroids. and come back in a month. I told him I had an apt already scheduled the following week with him and I would prefer to come back then as I am in a lot of pain. I don't understand his putting me off in these conditions.
He said that would be fine, but don't expect much.
I need a doctor who is going to take me seriously and help me with my problem. I am going to the bathroom many times because of the bowel pressure on that side of my abdomen. I have been very constipated- very painful, so I am taking laxatives which in turn are painful from the cramping but at least relieving the pressure from that left side. I have PPO insurance so I don't need a referral to see a specialist. How do I go about seeing a specialist with out them being predjudiced from my doctors opinion already? Is there anyone you can suggest I see in the St. XXXXXXX area?

Brief Answer:
Can be due to hemorrhoids.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The pain due to constipation can be related to hemorrhoids.
You can sit in hot sitz bath by sitting in a shallow bucket with hot water three times a day. The heat would help in relieving the discomfort and pain of the hemorrhoids.
Application of local anesthetic gels and vaso constrictors like Preparation H are also useful. It is available over the counter.
Taking too many laxatives will aggravate the pain due to strictures. You can use a suppository instead to pass the stool painlessly.
Do consult a pain specialist to manage the constant pain. You will have to search for one in St XXXXXXX are yourself as I am not familiar with your area.
Hope my answer is helpful.
Do accept my answer in case there are no further queries.
Regards.
