What Causes Severe Lower Back Pain, Severe Fatigue And Loss Of Appetite?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Nov 2015
Question: I am experiencing severe radiating pain in my lower back about hip level, bilaterally. This is accompanied by severe fatigue, loss of appetite, and periods of chills and/or sweats. I had a very similar episode about two months ago which lasted a week, and which also included an ongoing fever of approx 101 degrees. I went to urgent care and they told me they thought it was a flu, though I tested negative for the flu tests they ran. Could this be a symptom of a kidney problem?

Brief Answer:
Yes, this can be a kidney problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Yes, this symptoms can be caused by kidney infection indeed. Especially if you have also frequent urinating or burning while urinating.
It is also possible that you have some uterine or ovaries inflammation. It may appear with some bleeding from the vagina.
Flu seems rather less probable as it rarely gives back pain.

I suggest you to consult gynecologist and have transvaginal ultrasound done. Kidneys should be checked with an ultrasound and urine analysis.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
