What Causes Severe Lower Back Pain When Diagnosed With Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction?
Question: I have been diagnosed with SI joint as the cause of my EXTREME low back pain. I have had this since before 1995. I have had 4 spine surgeries since that time. I still am dealing with the same pain which worsened greatly since the last surgery. I am now fused from S1 to L1. At my last post op. check up I was told my pain had increased due to removing the pressure at the L3/L2 andL2/L1 levels after fusion. I also have pain radiating to the hip and down the legs with weakening after a very short time. It is a great deal worse on the left. It is aggravated by walking, standing, sitting. Before I was able to get relief by laying down but this is no longer possible. I am taking opiate pain meds. with very little relief. I have read a great deal on this. The ifuse fusion sounds like it would be correct for me. I also have had injections (bi-lateral) and ablations(bi-lateral) with no relief. What are your thoughts . I am truelly at witts end with the pain and limitations. I have always led a very active life and for the past 2 years have been not only stuck in the house but stuck in the chair.
Brief Answer:
The scope of intervention is very limited.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have carefully gone through the entire query and understand your dismal situation. But the scope of intervention is very limited. The fusion of the sacroiliac joint leaves the spinal nerves entrapped, thus leading to the immense pain that you are suffering from. The treatment modalities are restricted to pain medication, hot compress, spinal traction and physical therapy. I would not speak in favour of ablations.
The methodologies delineated on XXXX should be helpful for you (although the ailment is not exactly the same.
