What Causes Severe Muscle And Body Pain In A 60 Year Old Woman?

fibromyalgia is real
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
The doctor that told you that fibromyalgia is a figment of your imagination is misinformed and I strongly urge you to seek another physician. While we do not yet know the cause of fibromyalgia, it is quite real. It may be caused by a virus, we are just not certain at present. Venlafaxine combined with either Neurontin or Lyrica may give you some relief. Tramadol works well for some patients with fibro as well. In addition, aerobic exercise and muscle relaxants can also help.
I am not saying that you have it but your symptoms certainly fit. I suggest you see a rheumatologist that specializes in treatment of fibromyalgia to get a diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
The leg issue may be restless leg and a sleep study would be needed to diagnose that.
Keep doing the yoga and add something aerobic like running or swimming. Physical therapy may be helpful as well.
I hope you get some relief soon,
Dr. Robinson
