What Causes Severe Muscle Spasm?

Question: I have been under the care of a neurologist for several months. C-3 thru C-7 is fused (4 titanium plates, 14 screws, as a result of 3 spine surgeries, 2000, 20002, 20004). I have had spasms for over a year. They seem to be getting worse, they close off my throat, sometimes a few seconds, sometimes longer and harder. I've had CT myelogram. MRI and CT scan of brain, brain stem, and cervical spine, I've had an esophagram, HIDA scan, colonoscopy, and EGD testing. They say I have a bone spur at C-5 and some bulging disks, but they don't think this is causing the spasms. Gabapentin and Baclofen have done nothing to alleviate this stoppage of breath. Have an Rx for Valium, but only use it when they are the worst. Similar to a glottal stop, can't breathe in, out or speak when they come. With any head movement or tilt, shrug of the shoulders of hard clench of the jaw, spasms come on instantly. Any thoughts on how to proceed?
