Brief Answer:
You have tronchanteric Bursitis, commonly due to knee pain.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back to HCM: Please note that what you describe is called trochanteric bursitis and is common in those with knee pain, this leads to an uneven gait which stresses on or both of the hips. it is relieved by using warm/cold compresses and Ibuprofen will be your friend, physical therapy can help alleviate the pain. The ultimate therapy is also to have exercises that PT will assist with to strengthen your buttock muscles (gluteus XXXXXXX medius and minumus) to cope with the gait issue you are having. I hope this helps.
