Question: My daughter just woke up with severe pain and pressure in the right ear. Unable to sleep or get comfortable. All last week she had allergies and a stopped up nose. What can we do to help the pain?

After going through the query, I do understand that, your daughter could be having acute otitis media (infection of the middle ear, secondary to the nasal block.

At present, she would require anti-inflammatory medicine such as ibuprofen to relieve the pain. Also, the OTC medicine such as oxymetazoline nasal drops can be tried to reduce the nasal congestion and the block. Encourage your daughter to do steam inhalation and drink plenty of warm water.

Consult your doctor at the earliest for a complete evaluation and management.
