What Causes Severe Pain Below Rib Cage Despite Having A Normal Colonoscopy?
Question: I have horrible pains below my rib cage. Starting on the left side, then sliding to the right side always under my ribs. i have had cat scans and everything known to four doctors and they say nothing is wrong with me. I have been told that my spleen is inflamed as well. They feel that I have a Hernia possible wrapped around my intestines, but nothing can be found. Colonoscopy was negative.
I am in so much pain that I can't move and I have no energy. They say that nothing is wrong, but when the pain hits me I scream out in pain... horrible pain!!!!
I'm at a loss and I can't take this pain any longer!!!! It has to end!

Brief Answer:
may be inflammation of ribs or joints
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
From the symptoms it looks like it is coming from the rib or rib joints. That is why nothing is found in the tests. You say the spleen is inflamed, was that from some test?
In any case, this will probably get better with some anti inflammatory drugs. As no serious cause has been found, there is nothing to worry.
Hope this helps. I will be available for follow up.

The spleen is inflamed. That was seen in a CT scan. The pain is very intense and crippling. I have had a liver resection and gallbladder removed. The pain on the right side is constant ranging from slight pain to excruciating.
Brief Answer:
then we need to rule out infection
Detailed Answer:
We should get cultures and serology tests to identify any infection in the spleen if possible and treat it. But that does not explain pain on right side. It can still be due to the rib and rib-joint inflammation as I mentioned. It is the most common cause of this kind of unexplained pain we see in day to day practice.
For the time being, anti-inflammatory drugs should be able to control the pain.
