What Causes Severe Pain In Hip And Left Calf Area?
Question: Pain in hip and left calf. Pain moves around Had an arthritis profile. Blood work says no sign of arthritis. Severe pain. can hardly walk

I have read & understood your query.
If your arthritis profile is normal, considering your age, I see two possibilities for your pain.
- Low levels of calcium &/ or vitamin D in blood.. which has lead to osteoporosis, weakening of bones causing such problem.
- possibility of age wise degenerative changes in lumber spine leads to spondylitis. The disc in between gets displaced at times .. this causes entrapment of nerves coming out of spinal canal.
Your symptoms suggest entrapment or pressure on sciatic nerve( which supplies hip & lower limb),, is causing your pain.
* Home care-Till You can get doctor's appointment & till the acute pain is controlled, you should-
- take rest/ avoid stress or movements of the leg.
- Hot or cold compresses/ application of anti inflammatory gels .. like
Relaxil ointment/ Ibugesic gel.
- Tab Ibuprofen 400 mg ( over the counter ) can be taken 12 hourly after food. Calcium with vitamin D pills can be taken at break fast.
-Avoid weight lifting or bending
* Management would be after consultation of orthopedic surgeon & investigations ( blood values of calcium & vitamin D/ imaging investigation of lumber spine
- Specific anti inflammatory -Calcium , vitamin D supplements/ pain relieving drugs ( like Ibuprofen ) / injectable steroids/ physiotherapy/ surgery in non responding cases forms the line of management.
