What Causes Severe Pain In Left Lumbar Area?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Sep 2015
Question: Hi,

I am XXXX (Male 29 year).

I am getting following symptoms since last 4-5 years:
1. Feeling severe pain from Left Lumbar Region to Left Iliac Region to Hypogastric Region.
2. Occasionally pain is observed in respective right region too.
3. This pain aggravates after journey in vehicles.
4. Urine bladder gets full very quickly like when I start for my office after emptying bladder, on reaching I have urgent need to discharge urine.
5. Many times it feels like burning sensation along with pain.
6. Similarly the pain is observed in back side also.
7. Pressing left pain region makes pain in left testicles and vice versa.

I have consulted to Urologist and Physician too and doctors have advised for Ultrasound and urine flow test. Nothing revealed from test results. Urine flow was observed little bit slower for which Urologist had advised to take oral medication (ALFOO 10mg) for two weeks.

So far, no doctor is able to diagnose the problem and advise accordingly.

Please advise what may be the issue and how it can be confirmed and which specialist to consult.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are typical of left sided stone with urinary infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, let me advise you that, your symptoms are quite typical of a left sided stone with urinary infection(UTI).
As you've done an ultrasound( US)scan, a CT scan is far more accurate to diagnose a stone, easily missed on an US-KUB.
You must get a spiral 64 slice, CT scan- plain view of abdomen
For the urinary infection, get your urine routine and culture tested.
Your urine flow rate is sub-optimal, so Urologist advised Alfoo 10mg.
If you don't get relief with it, you must undergo a cystoscopy test, to find out the cause for the slow rate, but after treating urinary infection, if present.
Drink 12 glasses fluids daily. Your Urologist may have given an analgesic for pain.
You may send the reports here, for an expert opinion.
Wish you well.
