What Causes Severe Pain In Lower Jaw And Right Side Of The Body?

default
Posted on Wed, 5 Oct 2016
Question: I am a 55 year old male. About two days ago, I started getting pain in my lower jaw on the right side of my body. The pain is worse today. I do grind my teeth at night and thought the pain was from that. But it is much worse this time. There appears to be no swelling. I feel the pain in the six lower teeth on the lower right side of my jaw and underneath them in the gums.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be due to grinding of teeth..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTH CARE MAGIC..

As per your query, pain in six lower jaw teeth and adjoining gums with teeth grinding habit can be due to teeth grinding habit or Bruxism..

It can be either due to wearing off the tooth material and multiple nerve exposures causing pain due to nerve irritation..

Secondly, it can also be due to disorders related to Jaw joint that can cause radiating pain to Jaw..

To know the exact cause you need to get a clinical evaluation done and also a Panoramic X-ray to get the jaw joint and teeth checked..

Treatment will be based upon the cause..
In case, if it is due to nerve exposure then treating the teeth with Root Canal treatment will help..
You will also be advised wearing mouth guards for preventing wearing of teeth..

In case, if it is due to Jaw joint then mouth guards, physiotherapy, warm compresses and a combination of painkillers and muscle relaxant will help..

As of now, just continue taking pain reliever like Motrin, Diclofenac etc.(which your already taking)..
Take soft diet..

Any further questions are welcome..

Regards..
