What Causes Severe Pain In Lower Right Abdomen?

default
Posted on Fri, 30 Jan 2015
Question: About a week ago i woke up with a stabbing pain in my lower right abdomen. It was a sharp pain. I couldnt barely get out of bed to walk to the bathroom. I finally made it and thought maybe going to the bathroom would help. I wasnt able to have a bowel movement, so i just sat there. It hurt me when i tried to walk and lift my right leg. The pain went away after sitting there for a while. A week has gone by now and i have had some discomfort in that area. Im wondering if it was a cyst rupture? And if so, what can i do in the meantime? It was only on my right side. I am not on birth control or on any other medications.

Brief Answer:
get an ultrasound abdomen and pelvis done first...explained

Detailed Answer:
hello,
Thanks for contacting healthcaremagic
A typical shooting pain in the right iliac fossa which causes tenderness to touch and unbearable , not relieved by urination , the first thing to be ruled out is ACUTE APENDICITIS before any other differential diagnosis to be considered.
If the pain was relieved after sitting then it could either be a appendix rupture or a simple cyst. As the pain in lower abdomen is still persistent, it is advisable that you visit your physician for a ultrasound pelvis to rule out either appendicitis or ovarian cyst rupture.
Also a per vaginal bimanual examination would be required to rule out any gynecological cause .
Third possibility , is it could just be a spasmodic intestinal cramp which passed off slowly. But in either case an ultrasound would be diagnostic.
