What Causes Severe Pain In The Abdomen While Having Viral Infection?

He had a respritory virus fot a few days but played about 2 min at the end of a game when he was not feeling 100% but no longer had fever or anything.
Every since he played he says he feels what he said feels like a cramp in his abdomen at level with naval but about 2-3 inches right.
He currently has no fever
He still has a cough from chest.
The pain comes and goes.
It doesnt really increase with palpation or when coughing.
Rubbing around on his abdomen can actually make it disappear.
No diarhea, no gastritis or nausea.
He says that it isnt bad but today he said it got uncomfortable walking around(this is generally when he feels it).
Stretching his abdomen and such does not increase or produce the pain either.
My wife and i are confused at this point.
Im thinking he exercised while weak and pulled something but the symptoms of "no tenderness to touch" and "no pain on abdominal streatching" id think would be there.
Your thoughts
As detailed below.

Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history about your 16 year old son.
My thoughts as per the history you have provided:
Since he had viral infection, one of the presentation can be severe pain in abdomen may be due to colitis as per the point of pain you have mentioned and supportive signs elicited.
He may not get any other symptoms since he is athletic and young with good resistance power.
So do not worry at the moment and keep under observation to decide whether he needs clinical evaluation, examination by a Doctor and few supportive investigations of blood, urine, stool and ultrasound of the whole abdomen to confirm or rule out other probabilities like stone in right ureter, appendicitis or lymph nodes.
I hope this answer helps your son.
Take care.
Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Never feels any tenderness at the location where he says he feels the cramping feeling.
Does that bring anything to mind?
Clinical evaluation and examination, investigations to get a cause

Thanks for the feedback.
Would still have the same opinion, but then with the additional information you have given it would be better to have the clinical evaluation and investigations as mentioned above should be done just in case not to miss something more important. This helps at least to rule out other causes as I have mentioned above.
