What Causes Severe Pain In The Left Side Of The Face?

Posted on Thu, 8 Oct 2015
Question: My blood pressure is usually quite controlled but in the last month has spiraled out of control. I began to get severe pain in left cheek, temple, upper teeth and jaw. Physician gave me a Zpak with no relief. The pain only occurs at night and wakes me up. I then take blood pressure. Many times this week it has been well over 200/100. The worst being 249/148. Symptoms disappear as suddenly as they appear. Within a few minutes, pressures will drop 100 points and so does pain. Hot towels, heating pads and since spray all help but it never goes away and I am sleep deprived as well as concerned about the pressure levels and stroke. I have a appointment with nephroligist(one kidney, fibro muscular dysplasia) as well as ENT on Monday. Nephroligist does not believe this is a sinus problem. Any insight would be helpful.

Brief Answer:
May be a trigeminal neuralgia

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,
I have gone through your query; it suggests that you may be suffering from the trigeminal neuralgia if pain persist only one side of the face but not the sinus problem.

You may try the tablet Carbamazepine once in the night after consulting with your doctor.

Control blood pressure strictly.

Wish you good health.

Thanks
