Question: Hi, for over 8 years now i have been experiencing severe pain in my right ear, outer ear not inside ear. i have been to several doctors, had MRI, XRAYS, trialed medications, still no answers and still svere ongoing constant pain. i was referred to dentist but all appeared good there, was suggested an ear migrane and given medication that still didnt help. was suggested neuralgia and trialed medication LYRICA, still no good effect. accupuncture and XXXXXXX therapy. i also have neck pain when i have ear pain. my ear is so painful, pain last all day and often last a few days. it worsens as the day goes on, it rests when i sleep. but appears again when i wake. its a burning feeling, tingling, feels very raw and tender, can not touch ear, even my hair touching ear makes it more painful, i even have loss of hearing when this occurs. often experiences differ, sometimes the pain goes to the right side of my face and my face goes numb. other times it feels like liquid is pouring out of my ear but when i check nothing is oozing. facial expressions hurt, painful to smile or open my mouth to eat or yawn. on cold days the wind on my ear hurts, its a painful freezing and burning feeling, heat also reacts on my ear. this is disrupting mt everyday life dealing with the pain. i really would love an answer. no facial distortion. medication i have tried- Lyrica and another medication used for treating migraines but i cant remember what it was. recently been prescribed Entrip 10mg (endep). tried accupuncture and XXXXXXX therapy. had Xrays on my jaw but still nothing showed up. MRI, still no answers. i suffer from severe neck pain, neck is so stiff i feel as though i cant turn my head. the pain on my outer ear also is around my face under earlobe and behind my ear towards the back of my neck. the pain is unbareable, burning, freezing, it feels so red raw, i cant hear properly during this pain. ear turns bright red. i cant sleep on it and i cant cover it and if uncovered weather affects it. even just a fan blowing near by will affect my ear and cause pain to increase.

Brief Answer:
Neuralgia

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the information.
From the history it seems to be a neuralgia due to some spine problem. My advice is you should consult a neurologist. The ear pain is also due to this only. There seems to be nothing wrong with ear.
Please tell me do you have any weakness in the arm or hand when you compare both sides?
Take a muscle relaxant like a combination of diclofenac and chlorzoxazone twice daily.
Take tablet gabapentin twice daily for at least 10 days.
All the medicines I have prescribed will be available at prescription only.
Follow up with the required information and also send me your MRI PICTURES
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thanks and regards
