Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I would like to put forward the possibilities based on the information provided:
1. Greater trochanteric Pain Syndrome: Pain is present usually on the outside of your upper thigh. It is more common in women than in men, and occurs to individuals above the age of 50 years of age. The pain is a little more stronger, approximately 3 or 4 on a scale of 5. It occurs due to injury, weakness, infections, etc; to the muscles in the thigh region.
2. Sciatica: The pain usually starts from the lower back, and radiates to the thigh and at times even runs down till the back of the knee. But it can persists only to the thigh; the pain runs down the back of the thigh, is usually persistent, but is less intense and rates about a 2 on a scale of 5.
3. Peripheral vascular disease: Occurs with muscle cramps and takes place due to insufficient blood supply to the thigh. But with this cause, the pain doesn't appear when at rest, and is more prominent only when you move around or exercise.
4. Atherosclerosis: Narrowing of arteries, depending on which artery is affected it can take place only in the thigh region. This pain occurs mostly at rest, especially while lying down due to the decreased blood supply to the region.
These in my opinion are the possibilities, and would request you to visit a vascular surgeon to help diagnose and help you attain relief from your symptoms ma'am. I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
