Question: I started experiencing a severe pain on the right side of my hip when I got up to walk at my office and I was suddenly limping. I took pain medication after eating and the pain subsided a little but I was still not able to walk upright. I saw a doctor the following morning and he said it was pelvic imbalance and diagnosed me with Bursitis. I was advised to apply cold compress on the sight, and I came home and did just that. This treatment brought on arthritis and I called the doctor who told me my next option was to have the cortisone injection. I went in the next day for it and the pain left the side of my right hip and started shooting down from my knee to my shin bone. The doctor prescribed Naproxen which did not take care of the pain altogether. I was told to do physical therapy which I did. I saw another doctor for the same pain and she referred me to an orthopedist who sent me for an MRI and the result showed that I have herniated disk. The orthopedist now tells me I could have a steroid injection on my spine or be referred to a Spine Specialist. I am not sure I want to follow this path and I am still in pain. What do you recommend?
Brief Answer:
opinion from spine specialist.NSAID & muscle relax
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I went through the query and understood your concern.
Since you have herniated disc with radiating pain, the main cause for the pain may be nerve compression due to herniation.
With steroid injection the pain and swelling at herniated site will reduce and will give you comfort but its nor permanent cure. Depending on the herniation the treatment can be decided. Surgery will give you permanent cure. So get an opinion from the spine specialist.
For now Have good hydration, regular stretching exercise of back and good nutritious food. A NSAID like aceclofenac with a muscle relaxant like chlorzoxazone will help you for now.
Hope this information help you.
Feel free to ask if you have any further concerns, I will be glad to assist you.
Wish you good health.
Regards
