What Causes Severe Pain On The Back And Cough?

Question: Severe pain on right side of back. Started last night but pain has increased today and gets worse with movement of right arm or deep breaths. I have either or a cold or allergies and now have a cough but symptoms do not appear to be related.

I took a Tramadol but doesn't seem to be helping.

Thanks for posting your query.

The pain on right side of back that you have appears to be a muscle related pain. it can be due to a muscle spasm.

The following measures will help with the pain:

• Lie on a hard bed.
• Anti-inflammatory drugs like Tablet Motrin 1 tablet as and when required (do not repeat a dose before 6 hours) with food will help relieve the pain.
• Correct your posture while sitting
• Avoid prolonged sitting
• Avoid strenuous activity & lifting heavy weights.
• Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area. Warm compresses will also help.

Do consult an orthopedics in case the pain persists.
