What Causes Severe Pain Under Left Shoulder Blade And Upper Left Arm?
Question: Severe pain under left shoulder blade & upper left arm.
Have herd & a "corkscrew esophagus ". ( I know it's called something else now).requires bronco copy to dialate usually once a year. Had procedure in October but didn't work as well as usual.
Pain is so severe that I grasp my upper left arm & bend from my waist. Took 2 Prilosec yesterday & Tylenol. Not sure they helped. By evening pain was less & I was able to sleep.
Is there a way I can prevent this from happening. When it occurs it's usually in AM when I awaken.
Would really appreciate advice on how to prevent & how to elevate pain ( move the gas bubble) when it does hit!
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Several ideas
Detailed Answer:
ok you will need scoping.
I am assuming that you have had this pain before and. the esophagus is the cause.
prevention
some gods are likely to trigger.
acidic. hard rough big hot or very cold.
carbonation likely to be bad.
then diffe, rent times and diffe, rent size meals can be triggers
cigarettes alcohol are really bad
coffee probably bad
dairy may be bad
then medical treatment
calcium containing antacids are bad..they trigger acid
eating and lying down is bad
nitrates can be quite good. acid supression w ppl good but these are presction
the prevention and diferent food you can do...mostly...will need doctor intervention

Ok. Have appt w Duke GI later this month.
Realized that I the automatic word thing will not accept the word GERD.
I just about know/knew everything you put in your report.
Really looking for a night before preventative.- a bit of a magic bullet.
Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Night before Preventative?
Detailed Answer:
Something one can take that might be helpful prior to getting definitive treatment?
Ok, here's your bias. It is due to the part of the brain called the striatum. It is involved in automatically processing the world and automatically ducking when something is about to hit. It is called the SALIENCE CENTER. We automatically look for the THING in the foreground at the expense of ignoring the background. We look for the right pill, or magic thing to get, but ignore that NOT doing things is more important.
Again, the main thing is to find foods to avoid that are short term triggers and long term irritants.
Tums, calcium antacids, milk are quite likely to damp down the pain briefly but stimulate stomach acid and have it rebound worse soon after. Maalox is not as bad. Simethicone is not bad at all. It probably also won't work.
Medicines that relax the smooth muscle/prevent spasms, are all prescription only. Nitrates, reglan are some of these.
