Question: I suddenly experienced for the first time a tremendous amount of pain under my rib cage on the right side and a sharp pain in my back. I saw my naturopathic doctor for a yearly check-up last week and he said my liver seemed to be sluggish. I had my gall bladder removed two years ago. I had eaten pasta with pesto for lunch and an iced coffee. I have been extremely tired of late, and usually have swollen ankles. After reading symptoms of fatty liver disease I am asking what kind of doctor should I try to make an appointment with? Is there anything I can do at home until then. This is very painful. Thank-you so much

For fatty liver disease and the symptom you mentioned (tremendous amount of pain under your rib cage on the right side)- you need to consult a Gastroenterologist. I do not think that there is anything that you can do as a treatment for this kind of pain. You need to see him as early as possible.
