Question: My wife has periodic severe pain on her right side near the bottom of her rib cage. The pain comes on suddenly and then go away after she lays down. She once had pain so severe we went to the emergency room where numerous tests performed. She has also consulted with a G.I. MD, still no clue. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Gall bladder stones , liver cyst or IBD

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns . This pain could be due to a number of reasons , The most common of which is:
gall bladder stone or inflammation that will be related to fatty meals
liver cyst
kidney stone but will be associated with painful urination
inflammatory bowel disease that will mostly be related to stress
I would recommend that she gets an ultrasound abdomen , if it came back clear then she should get a colonoscopy to exclude or confirm inflammatory bowel disease. I hope I answered your question
