What Causes Severe Painful Muscle Knots In Neck & Upper Back?
Anxiety and Vitamin &trace element defeciency
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,
After going through your query I concluded that you may be suffering from anxiety and stress which may be causing this. Anxiety and stress decrease sensitivity of muscles to pain leading to tightness of muscles. Second factor which may be contributing to this may be vitamins and trace elements deficiency .I want to know Vitamin D3 and vitaminB12 level. You may need anxieolytic such as alprazolam to relieve anxiety. You should try to reduce stress. Vitamin D3 supplementation may be taken if it is low. Evion LC will be helpful to fulfill trace elements deficiency. You are already on antidepressant drugs and probably these should be continued. For pain you can take analgesic such as diclofenac. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.
Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Wishing you good health.
Take care.
Yes, I am suffering from anxiety & stress & have been trying to reduce it in the best way I can.
However one Neaurologist here mentioned poly myalgia or similar 'may be' the cause & another said an arthritic bone spur in my neck after a scan although the first specialist said the spur definitely would not yet being causing so many large muscle knots in my neck & more recently my upper spine & shoulder blades.
It is concerning that the painful knots are spreading & my neck is so very swollen, tight & extremely uncomfortable as are the accomplicing headaches.
Regards,
XXXX
Anxiety & stress is main, arthritis may contribute
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back
After going through your query and follow up query I think anxiety and stress is main cause but your arthritis and aging may also be contributory to it. Polymyalgia is a symptom of probably your stress and anxiety. You can add to your treatment Diacerine and Glucosamine which are useful in arthritis and age related symptoms. Rest already has been discussed. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.
Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
