What Causes Severe Stomach And Lower Back Spasms While At The Beach?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Feb 2017
Question: Hi there,
Im a 40 y.o. male. Have a question that any of my family doctors can not answer.
Every time I go to the beach or getting sunbath by the pool, during next night or sometimes few days I have a moderate to severe spasms in my lower back and stomack area. Feels like kidneys, but im not sure 100%. Can sunlight actually cause a damage to internal organs such as liver, kidneys or intestines? Sunbaths were always my favorite part during vacations and summer time but looks like I can not enjoy them anymore. Thank you for your time

Brief Answer:
Not due to internal organs.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Exposure to sun is not likely to damage the internal organs like stomach or kidneys or liver. The spasms in the back that you have are likely to be back muscle spasms due to improper posture. It can be due to excessive exertion of the back muscles too.
For this condition you have to do stretching & strengthening exercises in which you have to stretch tight muscle & strengthen weakened ones which will alleviate stress on the back.
The following measures will help with the pain
• Lie on a hard bed.
• Anti -inflammatory drugs like Tablet Motrin 1 tablet as and when required ( do not repeat a dose before 6 hours) with food will help relieve the pain.
• Correct your posture while sitting
• Avoid prolonged sitting
• Avoid strenuous activity & lifting heavy weights.
• Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area. Warm compresses will also help.

Adequate rest and proper nutrition is equally important. Drink lots of fluids since dehydration affects the disc. Eat a diet rich in fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables, nuts, milk, eggs, pulses and cereals.Do brisk walking exercise for 40 minutes daily. Get 6-8 hours of refreshing sleep daily.
Do start with swimming.this will good for most back pains.

I hope this answers your query.
