What Causes Severe Stomach Pain After Having Crestor?

Question: I am 60 year old male that took Crestor for about 6 keeks and developed severe stomach pain. Stopped taking Crestor but have had bowel problems since this happened 9 months ago. Can no longer take fiber supplement which I had taken for 15 years because of bloat. Taking Citrucel and stool softener now and still having trouble with bowel movements. Stool is soft but still hard to pass and can usually pass only small amounts. Any idea what happened to me.
Brief Answer:
Please get the investigations done
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking to HCM!
Crestor is a medication in the group of statins that is used to treat hypercholesterolemia (high blood cholesterol levels). However statin use and especially crestor use is associated with muscular and abdominal pain. In severe cases this may lead to liver damage, rabdomiolisis and renal damage.
What you're experiencing may be related to liver damage. I recommend running the following examinations:
- blood work especially liver tests (bilirubin and transaminase)
- abdominal ultrasound
- upper endoscopy
- colonoscopy
This examinations will help to find out the exact cause of your problem.
Hope this was of help!
