What Causes Severe Stomach Pain Along With Twitching In Body?

Posted on Mon, 16 Feb 2015
Question: I started having severe stomach pain this summer. I've been taking Pepcid which seems to hurt more. I stopped the Pepcid 3 days ago and am taking Nexium now which seems to be helping. I am having bad twitching and cramping body wide with heart palpitations. The doctor says dyspepsia and nerves causing the stomach pain. It doesn't make since to me. My gut hurts if I don't eat every 1.5 to 2 hours like I'm starving to death with severe cramping upper middle stomach. My stomach actually jerks and feels like a Charley horse. I've been getting the depo provera shot and seem stomach pain and heartburn as a side affect. Doctor says I don't know. My body has also been jerking when awake and falling asleep. I don't know what to do. They said there is nothing they can do. Does this sound like a vitamin deficiency? Also if I fill the bath tube with water and about 2 cups of Epson salt and soak about 10 minutes I start twitching all over feet and tight muscles in back. My heart rate goes up and I feel like I'm going to poop myself. Maybe its the anxiety of the twitching. I don't know what these side affects means either.

Brief Answer:
Condition needs evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Your condition does not look like simple gastritis. It needs further evaluation. I recommend you the following

1. Seek help from a gastroenterologist. I would want you to get an endoscopy done to rule out peptic ulcer
2. Along with Neksium , I recommend you to take a pro kinetic like mosapride twice daily. This will prevent gastric pain every two hours
3. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, milk and milk products
4. Avoid sleeping immediately after dinner. Sit for atleast 2 hours post dinner
5. Smaller meals several times a day is better than 3 heavy meals
6. For severe burning syrup mucaine gel acts fast and gives immediate relief.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

The gastroenterologist is the one who diagnosed. He didn't think I need nexium he said Pepcid should be enough. He didn't do a endoscopy. I had one 3 years ago and had gastritis. The gastroenterologist said to take 10mg amitrptylin for nerve pain. All I've taken is Baclofen 20mg and my stomach hurts when I take it. No other drugs. He says baclofen wont cause ulcers. He says I don't have one.

Brief Answer:
Endoscopy is required

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back

I am not sure how your doctor has come to a conclusion that it is nerve pain without doing any tests. I strongly recommend that you undergo endoscopy especially because you are in so much pain.
Baclofen is not a good drug for nerve pain. It is given in patients with muscular spasms.
You can take amitryptylin for nerve pain. An ideal drug for abdominal pains of your type is hyoscine butylbromide, it can be taken twice daily and it gives good relief.

I hope I was of help

Will Baclofen cause an ulcer? Will magnesium chelate cause gastritis or ulcer? Is it safe to take? If I just take the Nexium how long will it take for a ulcer to heal so I can discontinue use? Also if I fill the bath tube with water and about 2 cups of Epson salt and soak about 10 minutes I start twitching all over feet and tight muscles in back. My heart rate goes up and I feel like I'm going to poop myself. Maybe its the anxiety of the twitching. I don't know what these side affects means either. Can you explain?

Hello

Thanks for getting back

I will answer your questions one by one so that I dont miss any

1. Baclofen does not cause ulcer
2. Magnesium chelate does cause an upset stomach, especially diarrhea, it is safe to take magnesium chelate.
3. Ulcer healing takes about 8-12 weeks
4. Side effects means, if a particular drug is taken it causes some amount of undesirable effect. For example, if a pain killer is taken for joint pain, the join pain comes down but in turn the side effect is gastritis.

I hope I was clear in explaining things to you, if you have any more doubts please get back to me

Epson can cause local irritation of the skin and muscle causing it to twitch.
