What Causes Severe Stomach Pain?
Question: What is causing my severe stomach pain?
Let me first start off by saying I am a very avid marijuana smoker, the reason I started was so I could prevent my migraines with aura (haven't had one in two and a half years because of my habit) I just got back from the emergency room from the cause of abdominal pain. I only smoked every 3 days or so to experiment and see if that was the problem. However I will mention my days of abdominal pain were hit or miss. On some sober days I was fine. Other sober days I spent in agonizing pain. Vice a versa for the days I have smoked weed.
I consulted my Physician, he said my problem was my smoking. He gave me Dexilant and told me that my symptoms would subside in a few days. Wrong..
The doctor at the ER said I could smoke and be absolutely fine. He made it out to sound like all of my symptoms were most likely the beginning stages of an ulcer or gastritis. He was leaning more on the idea that I have gastritis.
My symptoms are as follows:
abdominal pain
bad gas (my stomach hurts from it right now as I write this)
it hurts most after I eat something
it hurt when I smoked, however when I smoked most recentlyI felt no pain at all
nausea
bloating
feeling week, fatigued
minor joint pain
irritability
light headed

I would also like to mention that my Stomach pain was not because of a bacterial infection. My blood tested clean.

Hello!
Thank you for the query.
First of all I do not think that Marijuana is a cause of your pain or the reason of any stomach issue. It rather can help with the pain than cause it. This is how THC works as it is used in cancer pain treatment as well.
If your abdominal pain is cramps like and you have joints pains, inflammatory bowels disease should be ruled out. Cramps like pain is characteristic for partial bowels obstruction. It appears gradually and gets stronger gradually caused by intestinal muscle spasm. Try to imagine that the intestine tries to push stool through narrow place. When it happens, intestine pushes harder and harder so the pain aggravates. There might be nausea and bloating with it and lack of gas excretion.
The other possibility is peptic ulcer. The pain is in upper middle abdomen. It is usually dull and constant, not cramp like. Other symptoms including nausea and pain after foods intake can be similar to bowels obstruction.
Depending of what seems the most probable you should:
1. in case of inflammatory bowels disease possibility abdominal x-ray and ultrasound should be done at first and colonoscopy as a next step
2. In case of ulcer possibility abdominal ultrasound should be done at first and gastroscopy as a second step.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
