What Causes Severe Sweating, Pain Around The Eyes And Difficulty In Swallowing?
Question: i am 65 yrs. old and take meds for high blood pressure. this morning i woke up in a full blown sweat and the side of my nose hurt. i got out of bed a little disoriented, but came downstairs and had something to eat. I felt pressure and pain around my eye and sinus area and found it a little difficult to swallow. took some tylenol and went back to bed for several hours then got back up. facial pain stillaround my eye and i could not tolerate bright light. it is now 5pm and face pain feels better but i now notice the muscles around the left side of my mouth are somewhat numb. my question is do any of these symptoms relate to a XXXXXXX stroke and what is involved to be checked. my husband is confined to a wheelchair and i dont want to alarm him

Do you notice any face asymmetry during smiling, besides the face numbness? This sign could indicate a possible stroke.
Have you measured your blood pressure? What are the values?
Your symptoms could be related to a sinus infection.
I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical exam and some tests:
- sinus X ray study
- a resting ECG
- some blood lab tests (complete blood count, PCR, sedimentation rate).
- a Doppler ultrasound of the cervical arteries would be needed in case suspicions of possible stroke are raised during physical exam.
A brain CT scan or MRI would be necessary to rule in/out possible small stroke.
These tests would also examine your sinus for possible infection.
