What Causes Severe Twitching In Right Leg And Toes After Hip Replacement Surgery?
Question: I have spinal stenosis when at time has caused twitching of my right leg and toes. Also, waiting for rt hip replacement. Recently, the twitching has become severe causing loss of sleep and the ability to sit comfortably. I feel that my stenosis combined with the need for a new hip has caused my gait to alter and escalated the stenosis syptoms. In the past if mild twitching occurred I layed down or used a back massager, but since my hip injury the symptoms have worsend. My doctor prescribed carbidopa levodopa 25-100 tabs at night which has not helped. The first seven days I slept 3 hrs and the twitching woke me. He then doubled he dose. I slept one hour with the twitching waking me. I feel that this med is actually causing sleeplessness. After 3 weeks I am very tired from lack of sleep and my surgery is not until Oct 19th. Do you have any suggestions?
Brief Answer:
Hello. I would suggest either Requip or Lyrica
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX This sounds like a form of restless leg syndrome which, while it's somewhat related to Parkinson's disease, wouldn't respond well to a Parkinson's medication like the carbidopa/levodopa.
Ask your doctor about trying either Requip or Lyrica, or both, to help with your problem.

Since my problem has increased with the hip injury on the same leg do you think a simple med like flexeril might help. I am taking nortriptlyne for the stenosis in my back. Thank you for your support. I am at my wits end. XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
Hello. It may help
Detailed Answer: XXXXXXX Flexeril may help but it's not as specific for your problem as Requip or Lyrica
