What Causes Severe Vaginal Spotting After Child Birth?
Im 6 months post partum after an emergency caesar. Im still experiencing spotting every few days. I had postpartum bleeding for 8-9 weeks then constant spotting since. I went on the XXXXXXX pill and the only change was it got lighter. Ive just stopped the XXXXXXX pill after three months to see if it would make a difference. Its been four days and im still spotting.
Ive had an ultrasound which showed nothing remarkable and my ovaries inactive (so no period) and ive had a course of antibiotics. Im breastfeeding and supplementing with formula. I have endometriosis but past cycles have been very regular and ive never had spotting midcycle until now, and no fertility issues.
I had an abdominal primary haemorrage caused by endometriosis which triggered my labour, and ive had an ectopic pregnancy and stillbirth with my first daughter.
Do you have any ideas of what this could be? Im really sick of bleeding and ive been to many doctors about it, but we were taking a "wait and see" approach to see if the minipill evened things out. It doesnt seem to have done anything. Thanks in advance.
Postpartum dysfunctional uterine bleeding
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Irregular bleeding and spotting6 months after caesarean section is most likely to be due to post partum dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
It is due to hormonal disturbances in the uterine lining which continously sheds causing spotting.
The treatment of such dysfunctional uterine bleeding is oral combined contraceptive pills given for3-6 months.
Other causes like local lesions in cervix or vagina including cervical cancer should be ruled out by proper examination and pap smear.
I suggest you not to get distressed and take appropriate treatment. If the spotting is not cured by oral contraceptive pills, then you should get an endometrial biopsy done to rule out any endometrial hyperplasia or carcinoma, which is very rare at your age.

I have had a pap smear a few months ago which came back all fine - the XXXXXXX pill hasnt helped the spotting (if anything it meant it was more frequent, but less heavy) and i cant go on the combined pill as yet as im still breastfeeding.
Oral contraceptive pills
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
If the pap smear is normal, then cervical cancer is ruled out.
Oral contraceptive pills can be safely taken after6 months of childbirth, even if you are breastfeeding.
You should consult your OBGYN specialist for proper counselling for starting oral contraceptive pills.

I have an appt in two weeks to see a doctor, i emailed you to get some ideas between now and then. Youve been very helpful.
Is it common to have hormonal issues affer childbirth? What causes it?
Happy to help
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I am happy to have helped you.
Yes dear, milk supply is established till 6 months and therefore combined oral contraceptive pills can be taken safely taken.
There are a lot of hormonal changes in post partum period, and hence disturbances in the endometrial lining are common.
They usually resolve with time.
