What Causes Severe Vomiting, Exhaustion And Joints Pain Post Intake Of Suprep?
Question: My mother had a colonoscopy scheduled for today. Last night, she used suprep for preparation. 5 minutes after finishing her first dose (which she was instructed to finish in half an hour) she had two instances of projectile vomiting. Needless to say, the treatment did not do it's job after this. After this, she was completely exhausted. Her skin tone has turned gray and all of her joints ache, including her fingers. Is this an allergic reaction? Will she be okay, and what could I do to help her heal? She refuses to continue with treatment and refuses to do another colonoscopy after this set of events.
Brief Answer:
it happens sometimes
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
this kind of preparation may cause nausea and vomiting. This is normal. Taking it more slowly usually the only thing you can do.
I can't say much about her joint aches. If it were an allergic reaction it would have been a very strange one! I suppose she was just exhausted by the vomiting. You can't help much besides providing her enough fluids to drink. You can also check her vital signs (at least blood pressure and pulse rate) to make sure they are OK. Unfortunately the preparation is essential for colonoscopy and colonoscopy cannot be substituted by another test.
I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
