Question: Im having very shallow heart beats with flutters. Now at night as Im falling asleep I jolt awake gasping for air like I wasn't breathing. What's going on?
Brief Answer:
Need holter monitoring and thyroid check
Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms,
I would advise you to have holter monitoring done (it is an examination during which 24h ECG is obtained), also I would recommend you to check your thyroid hormone levels.
In case these two come back normal you will need to be evaluated for anxiety.
Hope I could help you

My thyroid has been checked and its normal. Ive had ct scan ekg and blood work all normal. However my heart continues to flutter everyday. Some days while at rest I have rapid heart rate for no reason as well as low heart rates. I have lightheadedness and headaches some days as well. Now Im having weird sleeping problems. How do they test for anxiety? Ive never had anxiety before.
Brief Answer:
Need holter monitoring and psychiatrist consultation
Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms,
If thyroid tests are normal, remains two disease to check
1. sick sinus syndrome - it is very common to have low heart rates and then fast heart rates in this disease, usually diagnose is done by holter monitoring. So if you were my patient I would first check sick sinus syndrome. If it is excluded I will check for the second
2. anxiety - very common in young, usually patients have palpitations, sleep disorders. If holter results are normal I would advise you to see psychiatrist to check for anxiety.
Wishing you good health
