What Causes Sharp Electrical Shock Like Pain In Left Hip?

default
Posted on Tue, 19 Jul 2016
Question: About 3 months ago I was diagnosed with bursitis in my left hip with some arthritic changes. Last Saturday, while playing golf, I felt a very sharp pain that almost felt like an electrical shock. At that time, I ws able to move except laterally. This afternoon, again while swinging a golf club, I experienced what I can only best describe as getting shocked with a cattle prod and kicked by a mule at the same time. Walking is difficult, the pain is intense, especially when lying down and crossing my left leg over my right. When I touch my hip bone on the left anterior it is very painful. It is also extremely painful if I touch the posterior or side at the very top of my pelvis. My left leg is somewhat numb too.

Brief Answer:
I will advise you to do MRI spine with hip screening.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case.

There is possibility of spinal nerve compression leading to electrical radicular pain and numbness.Another possibility of acute hip synovitis leading to pain.

Usually nerve compression cant be seen on x ray, you may need MRI for this.

I will advise you to do MRI spine with hip screening.
For now avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
