What Causes Sharp Left Sided Chest Pain?

Posted on Thu, 9 Nov 2017
Question: Hello Doctor,

I am having sudden pain in my chest on left side (Heart Side) from last 3-4 days. The pain comes as a sharp pain and remains there for a few seconds. Also, sometimes I am having pain at that location for few minutes (In this case something like Muscular). Also, I have little pain towards the left arm but that is little dull pain that I feel more when I sit for a longer duration. Also, I have little cough from last 2-3 weeks. Got to know that it was due to Bacterial Infection. It went away on its own but sometimes it comes back if I get outside in a cold weather.
I am afraid if this is something related to Heart like Heart Disease or symptoms of Heart Attack? Can Heart Attack related pain/symptoms remain for so many days (3-4)?
I had similar pain in last few years but after ECG got to know that those were gastric pain. Also, those pain were little different (Like someone pierced a needle). Hello Doctor,

Also Just wanted to inform that I had bacterial Infection 1 week back and doctor told me to take amoxicillin (1750 mg per day) for 10 days.

Thanks & Regards,
xxxxxx

Brief Answer:
Most likely a muscular pain (Myalgia)

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

After going through the medical details provided by you I understand your concern for your health and I would like to tell you that most likely your symptoms are due to the chest infection which you had and from which your body is recovering.

Also the type of pain whicj you are describing is atypical from cardiac point of view.

However we have to be sure from the cardiac point o view so I would like to suggest you to get an Echocardiography and an Ecg done to confirm that heart is working alright.

Also kindly consult a chest physician for proper evaluation of your bacterial infection.

I hope this information will guide you properly.

Kind regards
Dr Bhanu partap
