What Causes Sharp Lower Back Pain?
Question: My 51 year old boyfriend had a sudden sharp pain in mid-to-lower left back that is now coming in waves. It is not radiating anywhere else and he does not have nausea or vomiting. So far, no trouble urinating. He does have a headache and a cold with a sore throat and has been in bed the last 24 hours.
Brief Answer:
It could be muscle pull or kidney pain
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It could be a muscle pull or a kidney colicky pain. You should take him to a Doctor who can examine him and he might require an Ultrasound of Abdomen and Pelvis. This would clarify whether the pain is musculoskeletal or inside the abdomen. Till then he can continue the Tylenol or some stronger medicine for the pain like Diclofenac. And tell him to have lots of water.
Do let me know if there are any further queries.
Take care.
