What Causes Sharp Pain And Swelling In The Right Armpit And Back?

Question: Hi!
My husband has suddenly gotten a big swelling on his back near the right side and under the shoulder blade.
It starts about 4 inches from the spine and curves around under his arm. His arm pit hurts. He has sharp pain and hurts to the touch and hurts even more when he tires to move it.What could this be?
We put ice on it. What do you think we should do? Its Sunday night...Sorry to bother you. and Thank you!
