What Causes Sharp Pain And Swelling Post Inguinal Hernia Surgery?
Hematoma- nerve stretching - recurrence
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Male/60 - single hernia mesh repair 6/2 - flew back same day - dull ache until Fri - has become sharp sting as when hernia first occurred in Dec - slight increase in swelling - worried about re-opening by carrying 20 lb backpack and masturbated night after surgery...
After reading and re-reading this, the following possibilities can be considered.
- Hematoma formation
- Reopening usually does not occur on carrying just 20 lb backpack. It can occur due to straining at constipation, sudden sneezing or coughing.
- Due to Hematoma formation the nerve may get stretched and cause the pain you have explained.
You may please examine the following and let me know;
Is there any impulse on coughing?
Is the pain referring to the scrotum or inner thigh?
Take rest.
I hope you are already taking some medicines like an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen.
I hope this answer helps you. Please feel free to give me feedback, ask further relevant queries if you need to or if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
Let recovery be good, give it a time.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
Noted the history of slight sting on coughing, worse on standing or sitting down.
Pain centered 2-3 ins left of genitals- suggestive of nerve stretch or a rare chance of recurrence.
Masturbation: I do not think, it is at all related, please do not worry about it.
Pain has grown slowly over 3 days.
Hematoma does not require any surgery, it will resolve on its own by body's own healing mechanism.
If possible take full bed rest.
Take laxatives if constipation.
Eat and sleep well.
Let the body take over its own healing mechanism well and hopefully will settle.
If at all some sequel or complications occur, they may be tackled later, nothing active is needed to be done at the moment.
If there is a facility at your place to be seen by a Doctor or a surgeon for second opinion, will be good.
