What Causes Sharp Pain At Incision Site Of Hernia Surgery?
Question: I had abdominal hernia repair 8 weeks ago. It was done by incision and mesh placement. I have not had any pain until the last week or so. I feel a sharp pain whenever I bend over. The pain goes away when I stand up.
There is no fever. Is this normal? I won't see my surgeon for another 4 weeks. He has an excellent reputation as a surgeon, but doesn't seem to like answering questions. Should I go see my internal medicine physician? He is the one who discovered the hernia last September. The cat scan showed a large abdominal hernia over my transverse colon. Is it normal to suddenly develop a sharp pain after 8 weeks?
I am a 73yo female who has had two previous abdominal surgeries - left hemicholectomy in 1998 and XXXXXXX in 2010. The incision for hernia repair was made above the navel. The other two surgeries were done below the navel.

Brief Answer:
An Internal Medicine physician is good to check
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It is sometimes normal to have pain at the hernia site, it may be because of surgical procedure. However in a 73 yr old female who had multiple surgeries it is better to get surgery site inspected even by a Internal Medicine physician. They know the basics of how to inspect and examine the region. If needed they can get the necessary investigation before the main surgeon arrives in picture.
So it is better to get the verification going instead of worrying at home.
